When you think "art museum," do you think "maternity photos?" Neither did I -- that is, until we moved back to Raleigh!
It's been almost a year now since Bobby and I kissed our sweet Lynchburg goodbye and headed due south to start a new chapter in the Land of the Pines. Raleigh is my hometown, and I was so excited to introduce my husband to everything I loved about it. So much was exactly the same as I left it, and so much had changed. But what a fast and fun year it's been. I'm just now starting to see a little pickup in photography requests again, and this maternity session at the North Carolina Museum of Art was everything good about photography rolled into one for me. Peeking sunshine, lush greenery, gentle breezes, and two beautiful subjects who share so much love and goofiness together.
Alexis is a friend I've made through work, and when she asked if I'd take maternity photos for her and her husband Daniel, I barely let her finish the question before I erupted with an excited "yes!!" Alexis is as lovely on the inside as she is on the outside -- a relaxed ray of sunshine who's a calming force in almost any situation. She's humble, intelligent, and an excellent listener. And when I had the chance to watch her interact with Daniel, their quirkiness and affection spilling over reminded me so much of the goofball love that's a favorite facet of my relationship with my own husband.
Daniel kept us both laughing throughout the session -- his goofy faces deserve an outtake B-roll of their own! And I had all three of us in stitches when I went to stand up from a prolonged squat and just tipped over backwards instead (having a woman in her third trimester helping you up off the ground is a humbling experience!). The museum grounds were so dreamy on the first day of May, already boasting long grasses and boughs overflowing with tender new leaves in bloom. So it's no surprise that all of these perfect ingredients combined resulted in a gallery of images that I'll be dreaming of and swooning over for a very long time to come. I have a strong feeling that Alexis and Daniel will make amazing parents, and their little boy is the luckiest to have two parents who cherish each other so much. So, here's to love, parenthood, and the easy-breezy feeling of traipsing through nature's glory on a cool spring day.
