Springtime in the city! A flush of verdant green. Blooms opening like a sweet secret. The promise of longer, lazy days soon on their way. March in this neck of the woods doesn't usually feel all that springy. For all the years I've lived in Lynchburg, I know that I've seen a snowy March day more than once! But a warmer winter this year gave us the gift of a (somewhat) early cherry blossom bloom. Cherry blossom trees - my favorites. They're here one moment, and gone the next. If you blink, you might miss them! So when I saw that the glorious grove of trees at the Lynchburg Regional Airport was at the peak of it's beauty, I knew that I needed to act - and act fast.
I met Rachel in college, and what a one-of-a-kind soul she is. I've always been enamored by her warmth and radiant vivacity, not to mention anything of her spot-on taste in fashion. She's poetry in motion, and as much of a joy to chat with as she is to photograph. She and her sweet husband Jacob have been in front of my lens before, and when I thought about the perfect subjects for a spring mini session among the blossoms, they were a natural choice!
For all the warm March days that coaxed the blooms from their wintry cocoons, the evening we chose for our session was anything but. The temperature sat at a brisk 48 degrees, but what really drove it home was the wind - blustery at best, and downright gusty at times! True to form, however, the lovebirds weren't deterred from making the most of it and capturing some beautiful memories. And their bravery was rewarded! There was no shortage of laughter, and just when we felt like we might truly turn to frozen statues, my sweet husband Bobby picked us up in the warm getaway car.
Even though I've been practicing photography for nearly thirteen years now, this session was my first to be shot exclusively in RAW (a whole other blog post on that to come!). I couldn't have been more pleased with the process, or the results! It was a session I'll always remember, and I'm so happy that I seized the opportunity to capture my beloved cherry blossoms - now all but blown away like soft pink confetti on the wind.
